Comedian Chris Rock becomes writer, director and actor for his new film "Top Five."

The comic hit the red carpet with a host of comedians in New York to celebrate the film's opening.

"Top Five" will give audiences a glimpse behind the scenes of show business as it follows a comedian, portrayed by Rock, over the course of one day as he promotes his new film, struggles with addiction and prepares to marry a reality star, played by Gabrielle Union.

Rock, who is known for his successful standup career, said he wrote the script the same way he writes his comedy routines.

On the red carpet he talked about the steps in creating a LOL film.

SOUNDBITE: Chris Rock, actor, saying (English):

"You hire a lot of funny people. Get a story that tracks from A to Z and you get funny people. And even when you get it wrong they'll get it right, they will be funny."

While promoting the movie Union joked she based her character off two popular reality show families.
