ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

A Takata Corp executive says the company is deeply sorry for each case where their air bags have malfunctioned and resulted in injury or death.

Testifying at a House Committee hearing on Wednesday, Takata executive Hiroshi Shimizu said, "We will take all actions necessary to advance the safety for the driving public."

An executive from Honda also announced at the hearing the automaker will expand its existing regional recall on affected Takata air bag inflators nationwide.

More than 16 million vehicles have been recalled worldwide since 2008 to replace Takata air bag inflators, which can explode with too much force and shoot metal fragments into the car. At least five deaths have been linked to the defect, all in Honda Motor Co cars.
