American comedian Jon Stewart steps away from the hosting desk and into the role of screenwriter and director with his new movie, 'Rosewater', which screened in New York on Wednesday.

'Rosewater' tells the true story of journalist Maziar Bahari who was accused by Iran of being a Western spy and imprisoned after appearing on Stewart's late night news satire 'The Daily Show'.

SOUNDBITE Screenwriter and Director, Jon Stewart, saying (English):

"I think once you get someone arrested you feel a certain connection. We became friendly with Maziar after he got out of prison. And you know, we just started sharing breakfast and he wrote a memoir about his experience that was just kind of incredibly compelling and spoke of generations and family and the culture that sustained him. And it was funny and shouldn't have been. Like he just had an ability to retain his sense of humor and perspective. And I think I was just - I was very taken by the material."
