Ebola death toll tops 5,000

The deadly Ebola virus has now killed more than 5000 people, according to the World Heath Organization.

More than 14000 people have been infected ---

and while Liberia and Guinea are showing signs of improvement, the W.H.O's Fadela Chaib says Sierra Leone is still very much, in Ebola's grip.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) WHO SPOKESWOMAN, FADELA CHAIB, SAYING:

"There is a trend now in Liberia showing a kind of decline in cases while being reported on a weekly basis. In some districts in Guinea, there is also a kind of decline, but in Sierra Leone, the numbers are still very high. What I can tell you is we should stay still very vigilant because things tend to change very quickly in Ebola."

And adding to the crisis, is the spread of Ebola to Mali, which shares its border with Guinea.
