Obama picks Loretta Lynch for Attorney General

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:

"It's pretty hard to be more qualified for this job than Loretta."

And with that, President Barack Obama nominates Brooklyn prosecutor Loretta Lynch as his next Attorney General, given her long list of qualifications.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, SAYING:

"She has spent years in the trenches as a prosecutor, aggressively fighting terrorism, financial fraud, cyber crime, all while vigorously defending civil rights."

She's the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York... and if confirmed by the Senate, would be the first black woman to hold the top job, succeeding Eric Holder.

And on a sunny Saturday at the White House, Obama offers glowing praise:
