Maynard ends her life with doctor assistance

29 year old Brittany Maynard, a terminally ill woman suffering from brain cancer, ended her life Sunday in Oregon.

Maynard was diagnosed in January with a brain tumor and said she planned to take prescribed medication to die when her pain became unbearable.

Maynard became an advocate for terminally ill patients who want to end their own lives with her decision to exercise the state's Death with Dignity Act.

A nonprofit group called Compassion and Choices posted a message on Facebook that said Maynard passed peacefully in her bed surrounded by family and loved ones.

In addition to Oregon, there are four states in the U.S. that allow assisted suicide.
