In the mid to late 80s a small chain of children's entertainment restaurants start spreading across the US called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, featuring the titular cartoon character Freddy Fazbear and his friends Bonnie the Bunny, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate Fox.
While other kids pizza chains used animatronic mascots as static band members on a central stage, Freddy's had robots "roam" the restaurant to interact with children. That is until "The Bite of '87" when one of the animatronics took a chunk out of a patron. Business took a hit and Freddy and his friends were only allowed to roam during after-hours to keep their motors from seizing up.
Freddy Fazbear's Pizza took another massive hit after five children went missing. The children were never found though many parents attending the pizzeria later noted a "disgusting smell" along with blood and mucus coming from the animatronics after the event. An unnamed suspect was arrested but the children were never found.
With the animatronics beginning to deteriorate and malfunction, the chain must employ a night guard to watch over Freddy and the gang.
