Juliet wonders if after doing a hot oil treatment if you are supposed to rinse with cold water.

#1 Leave warm oil on your hair and scalp for at least 5 minutes
Leaving the warm oil on your hair and scalp for about 5 minutes allows the oil to penetrate your scalp and hair. Warm temperature opens up your pores and raises the cuticles that protect your hair shaft and this is why the warm oil penetrates your scalp and hair. Warm your oil up in an applicator bottle with the lid removed in the microwave in about 20 to 20 seconds and then apply to your scalp and hair. You can also sit the applicator bottle in a container of hot water to warm the oil up in that way as well. When doing your hot oil treatment, you have to use the best quality oil for maximum penetration and those oils have to be virgin and cold pressed to provide the highest nourishment.

#2 Rinse oil with warm water cold, cold water will leave behind too much oil
To remove the oil from your hair, you have to gently rinse your hair for a couple of minutes at the least with warm water. By allowing the water to do the work and not your hands, doing this allows for your hair to hold on to a necessary amount of oil. Excess oil will be left behind on your hair if you rinse the oil initially with cold water instead of with warm water.

#3 Final rinse with cool water for smooth shiny hair
Cold water rinsing is necessary for smoother hair because hair also reacts to cold temperatures as well. Cold water causes the pores on your scalp to tighten or constrict and cold water causing the cuticles to lie down and protect the inner parts of your hair shaft. After rinsing gently with warm water, rinse with the coolest water you can stand to lock in the oil and water into your hair.
