Like many animals, tortoises sometimes eat things they shouldn’t. Recently, a veterinarian in Florida discovered a sea turtle pendant inside a tortoise’s body.

Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center’s Dr. Don Harris examined the creature named Lola after the owner brought her in.

Lola is a Spur-Thighed Tortoise. They typically weigh between 70 and 100 pounds in weight and measure about 18 inches in shell length.

Lola was having some problems at home. She wasn't eating right and was experiencing stomach issues so Harris had an X-ray performed on the tortoise.

He was shocked at the findings. Harris remarked “I thought the techs were playing a joke on me. Somewhere along the way, this tortoise swallowed a charmed shaped like a sea turtle..”

Reportedly, it was the first time Harris had seen such an unusual case. Lola is receiving treatment at the veterinary office.

The tortoise is getting laxatives and enemas in the hopes that she’ll be able to pass the charm on her own. Staffers at the center are monitoring her in case the pendant has lead or any other potentially harmful containments but thus far, she appears to be doing well.
