Scores of Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem clashed with Israeli police on Wednesday (October 22), hours after a baby was killed and eight people were injured when a car slammed into pedestrians at a Jerusalem light railway stop.

Police described the incident as a "terrorist attack".

After nightfall, residents there clashed with police hurling rocks and petrol bombs. Officers responded with stun grenades.

The earlier incident took place along a main north-south route leading into the center of Jerusalem, close to the national police headquarters and one of the city's main hospitals at Mount Scopus.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Islamist Hamas movement for the attack. He also ordered police to heighten their presence in Jerusalem.
