"This is what our men are fighting for" - Ukrainian widow ahead of vote

Posters on the streets of the western Ukrainian city of Lviv touting candidates for the upcoming parliamentary election.

For some it holds out hope that it can end the conflict in the country that has killed more than 3,600 people.

One of those was the husband of Olena Pasevych.

She has her doubts about the election.

(SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) OLENA PASEVYCH, WIFE OF SOLDIER IVAN PASEVYCH, SAYING:

"I would like to believe in a miracle. But having seen the lists of those who are standing in the elections, I don't think that anything will radically change."

She will nonetheless vote.

"I will go out to vote. In the end, this is what our men are fighting for and giving their lives for. It's done for our future."

Some hope the ballot box will put an end to the fighting.
