Hong Kong: Beijing stifles any risk of protests spreading

In Hong Kong, the so-called "Umbrella Revolution" has entered its third week. Protesters continue to demand universal suffrage by demonstrating against the Chinese Communist Party. While Beijing is refraining from using brute force to suppress the movement, it is determined to avoid it spreading to the rest of China. Media censorship means Chinese people on the mainland are barely aware of the protests, and some activists have even been arrested for trying to speak out.
