Interview with musician Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni of the group Tinariwen, which has popularized the traditional music of the Tuareg--a nomadic Beber people of the North Africa Saharan desert, particularly Mali-- with a modern twist. The group had its beginnings in the late 1970s but debuted as such in 1983. From the beginning its music has been linked to the struggle and rebellion of the Tuareg people and has been characterized by its combination of traditional melodies and instruments in a fusion with rock, blues, and country. teleSUR
