Islamic State militants and Kurdish fighters engage in a fierce battle near Kobani, Syria, the militants intensifying their advance despite U.S.-led airstrikes on their positions elsewhere.
Amateur video posted on a social media website appears to show the latest clashes there, which left several fighters on both sides dead.
The fighting has forced tens of thousands of mostly Kurdish Syrians to flee for their lives.
At a crossing near the Turkish town of Suruc, men, women and children carry the bare necessities.
(SOUNDBITE) (Kurdish) KURDISH MAN FROM SYRIA, YUSUF BERKEN, SAYING:
"I had a home and a business. I had everything. They are all gone now. My house was looted. Those bandits came and plundered our homes. We stayed in the desert, a fleeting dust storm was swirling. This is my appeal to the world. Please save us from these animals."
