" I accept that verdict of the people and I call on all Scotland to follow suit in accepting the democratic verdict of the people of Scotland.Secondly, the unionist parties made vows late in the campaign to devolve powers to Scotland. Scotland will expect these to be honoured in rapid course."

Clackmananshire, was the first local council to declare "No".

It set the momentum for the rest of the results.

Although, the "Yes" campaign did have significant wins in Glasgow -- Scotland's largest city -- and also Dundee.

The leader of the Better Together campaign Alistair Darling emphasised that despite voting "No", there would still be change.
