Professional Photographer & Adobe Certified Lightroom & Photoshop Expert Geoff Cable of the GC2 Photo Club takes you through the details of ISO settings (International Standards Organzation), including where ISO originates and the affects different ISO settings can have on your photographs, how and when you can adjust the setting, giving you the opportunity to shoot better quality images.

ISO is an abbreviation for 'International Standards Organization' and is directly related to the light sensitivity in your camera. Originally created in the days of film, where you could buy film of differing ISO sensitivities for photographing in different levels of light, ISO is now used 'in-camera' in DSLR cameras and works in much the same way as original film.

The higher the ISO setting, the less light you need to gain a proper exposure. However, be careful, the higher the ISO setting the more the image will contain 'grain'. In fact, used correctly, this grain can add to an images quality, depending on the result you want to achieve.

Combining ISO with Aperture and Shutter Speed will give you a great amount of flexibility in changing light conditions and to achieve certain artistic result, depending on what result you want to achieve.

It is essential to minimize post-shoot editing time, especially if you're a professional trying to make a profit. The less time you spend in your digital darkroom the more time you can spend on other money-making tasks.

It's amazing how many photographers we've met that have only a basic knowledge of the tools and techniques available to them when going out on a shoot. Given more of the essential knowledge every photographer has the ability to drastically reduce post editing time by using the camera and some good tricks to get more of the 'finished' image in-camera.

Getting more of the image right when you take the shot not only saves you workflow time in Lightroom or Photoshop, it also gives you that 'feel-good' sense of personal achievement and maximises your personal potential.

Here at GC2 Photo Club we like to introduce you to the little tips, tricks and workarounds that help you make the most from your camera, whether you be a Nikon or a Canon Photographer, giving you the tools to make informed decisions regarding how you plan your shoot.

Any tip or trick that introduces time-saving techniques without compromising quality is a great thing for the professional photographer and the hobby photographer alike.
