Fresh Snow "Blood In The Sun"

Who loves the sun? Not everyone? Well, it turns out the feeling is mutual. Life is a brief and beautiful thing that can sometimes appear to be ugly and horrible. To me this video is about trying to preserve and protect that beauty. It isn't easy and it is always filled with obstacles, but if you stick around the sun will find you.

This video was created and animated by acclaimed Toronto designers Nick Sewell and Hector Herrera. Using a mashup of animated illustration, mixed media and design methods used in mobile video games, a chase ensues between a fiery sun and a young couple through a hellish world. As the music grows more frantic, the sun becomes relentless in its pursuit of the young lovers. But things are not always as they appear...

Nick Sewell:
Nick Sewell is a Toronto-based designer and creative director. Working in broadcast design since 1999, Nick has created work fora variety media clients including MTV, Cartoon Network,Comedy Central, Sports Center, PBS, and Warner Bros.

His film work includes title design for David Cronenberg’s Spider, Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy, William Shatner’s The Captains and Fight Like Soliders, Die Like Children, based on the book by Roméo Dallaire.

His work has appeared in numerous graphics and post-production publications such as Stash, Design In Motion, Applied Arts Annual, and M21 as well as media outlets such as Rolling Stone and NME. His work has also earned acclaim internationally, including over 16 Broadcast Design Awards.

Hector Herrera:
With over 15 years experience in broadcast design, Hector has created work for a diverse range of clients that include Cartoon Network, SpikeTV, BBC, CTV and David Cronenberg, as well as advertising agencies such as JWT, Ogilvy and FCB. His work has been showcased in several design publications such as Stash, Design In Motion, Applied Arts and Boards magazine and has garnered several BDA gold, silver and bronze awards.

Hector is also an instructor in the Illustration program at the Ontario College Of Art and Design where he teaches digital mixed media illustration techniques and Illustrated Activism. He also teaches and developed the syllabus for the new Animated Illustration course.
