NATO summit opens second day with focus on Ukraine and Islamic State

NATO opened its second day of talks on Friday (September 5), demanding that Moscow withdraw its troops from Ukraine and issuing assurances that threats by Islamic extremists in Iraq and Syria would only "harden our resolve to stand up for our values and to defeat them."
The alliance is set to agree to help organize security assistance for Iraq in its fight against Islamic State militants, including coordinating the airlift of supplies, a Western official said.
Addressing the meeting, Britain's David Cameron mirrored opening statements by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and said NATO was needed more than ever to face the threats presented by Russia and Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.
In his opening remarks, Rasmussen said all members of the alliance were duty-bound to defend each other.
