Two dead in Paris suburb explosion

An explosion rocks a four-story building in a Paris suburb Sunday morning, killing at least two people -- a child and an elderly woman.

Neighbors were the first ones on the scene.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) EYEWITNESS ARAFET BRAHIM SAYING:

"We tried to take people out of the rubble...We took the bodies out of two Polish boys, I think. One was in good state, but the other body had his head missing, his head had gone. Frankly, it was horrible, I don't know how to describe that moment."

Initial reports say ten people have been evacuated from the rubble so far, including four who were seriously wounded.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve arrives at the site.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH INTERIOR MINISTER BERNARD CAZENEUVE SAYING:

"Operations are ongoing according to a precise protocol to allow for the evacuation of the site -- in order to get a maximum number of people out and to save lives."

He says the explosion appears to be due to a gas leak,
