A drone flew above massive wave waves generated by a hurricane Thursday in Newport Beach, California, soaring over the towering surf. Hard-core surfers flocked to Newport Beach as gigantic waves from Hurricane-turned Tropical Storm Marie slammed into the shore.
Some of the waves were as high as 20 feet (6 metres). A High Surf Advisory is in effect until Friday.
The large waves have already proved to be deadly. A surfer in his 40s died Tuesday at a hospital after he was rescued by Los Angeles County Lifeguards at Surfrider Beach. Several hundred people have also had to be rescued since Tuesday.
