Swedish royals boycott Chuck Berry at awards ceremony

Rock legend Chuck Berry has been snubbed by two Swedish royals over his historic conviction for human trafficking.

In 1961, the star received a three-year prison sentence after transporting a 14-year-old girl he was in a relationship with, across several US states.

Queen Silvia and Princess Magdalenda refused to join other royal family members, including King Carl Gustaf, at the 2014 Polar Music Prize ceremony.

The prize is an annual award given for achievement in the world of music.

Both a pop or rock performer – this year Berry – and a classical musician are recognised.

The queen is the founder of a children’s charity and said it was a “family decision” for her not to go.

Berry was unable to attend the ceremony for health reasons.

The 87-year-old’s most famous hits include “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Johnny B. Goode”.
