Released Syrian hostage thankful for world's support

Peter Theo Curtis emerged from his mother's house, a grateful man, thankful to the people who helped free him from captivity in Syria.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) RELEASED HOSTAGE PETER THEO CURTIS WALKS UP TO MICROPHONE, SAYING:

"First of all, I want to thank you all for coming out here on this beautiful Wednesday morning. In the days following my release on Sunday, I have learned bit by bit that there have been literally hundreds of people, brave, determined and big-hearted people all over the world working for my release.

45 year old Curtis, had been held for two years by an insurgent group called the Nusra Front in Syria. Working with allies in Qatar, the US government was able to secure his release and his return home on Tuesday.
