The Peruvian police confiscated 3.3 tons of cocaine that was hidden in a shipment of coal headed to Belgium and Spain, in the northern port of Trujillo, Tuesday.

Five Peruvians and two Mexicans, believed to be part of a Mexican cartel, were arrested.

According to counter-narcotics police chief Vincente Romero, it was the biggest cocaine seizure of the year in Peru, which overtook Colombia as the world's top cocaine producer in 2012.
