STORY: Japan has gone ice bucket challenge crazy, with the nation's top pop idol group posting their video online on Wednesday (August 20). Following a concert at the Tokyo Dome, Japanese female pop group AKB48 kicked off the challenge with their producer Yasushi Akimoto.

Representing the 300 members of the group present, Mayu Watanabe accepted the challenge and proceeded to dump a bucket of cold water on her head in front of fellow members.

Akimoto then proceeded to nominate the Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota, the world's largest auto manufacturer.

The ice bucket challenge was also performed by high-profile Japanese businessmen such as CEO of Japan's biggest online retailer Rakuten Inc., Hiroshi Mikitani on Thursday (August 21).
