USA - Republicans block Obama's bid to hike minimum wage
Raising the minimum wage remains a key point of contention in the US. President Obama wants to bring it up to $10.10. This might seem like a win-win situation: people would earn more, spend more, and the economy would benefit. Some independent reports show Obama's hike could lift close to a million people above the bread line. But on the flip side, jobs could be lost as employers struggle to pay the higher wage.
