Obama sends top lawman to Ferguson, Missouri

Ferguson, Missouri continues to grip America’s attention after another night of violence in the streets. With the National Guard now deployed to keep the peace on Monday there was a full day of mostly peaceful protests before clashes during the night. The curfew has now been lifted after Sunday night’s serious incidents, but the local authorities insist risk of another flareup is high.
Local law enforcement is in the spotlight after the fatal shooting of unarmed Afro-American teenager Michael Brown, and Washington is intervening. Firstly, by insisting on a rare Federal autopsy, and now with the dispatching of the Attorney-General Eric Holder to Ferguson. The president himself is now warily entering the ring.
“As Americans, we’ve got to use this moment to seek out our shared humanity that’s been laid bare by this moment. But that requires that we build, and not tear down, and that requires we listen, and not just shout. That’s how we’re going to move forward together, by trying to unite each other,” said Obama on Monday night.
Race is an issue America’s 44th president knows can blow up in his face, but many in Ferguson believe it already has, and they are the victims at the mercy of an unaccountable white-minority run law and order system.
