High-security prison hit by fatal rocket fire in Ukrainian city of Donetsk

A high-security prison on the outskirts of the Ukranian city of Donetsk has been hit by rocket fire.
One prisoner, in the “strict regime” prison colony number 124, was killed and five others injured.
Yuriy Khmelevtsev, the jails’ deputy governor said his staff were quick to react: “Of course we provided medical assistance in time. We worked professionally and thanks to emergency drills and bomb shelters, we managed to save the majority of prisoners.”
As power to the facility was lost the alarm system went down and 106 prisoners promptly made their escape, though as many as 34 have since returned.
Those that fled say it was more out of fear than a genuine desire to break loose.
Inmate, Vova Kordemanskiy, described what happened: “When the prisoners started to head to their sleeping quarters the rocket hit this area. No one was here at the time, except for one man who was downstairs. His head and body were separated by the explosion. You can see the results.”
Authorities in Kyiv say they did not target the jail, but as many as 214 power substations were out of action on Monday morning, all but fourteen have since been restored.
