Death toll climbs in Gaza as world leaders in Paris push for peace

What they're finding is more death.

As the Palestinian death toll passes 1,000, far away in Paris, world leaders are scrambling for a longer-term solution.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is spearheading the efforts.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY SAYING:

"Each side has powerful feelings about the history and why they're where they are, and what we are going to work at and is how do we break through that so the needs are met and we have the ability to provide security for Israel and a future economic and social and otherwise development for the Palestinians. That's what this is about."

More progress came Saturday in a 4-hour truce extension agreed to by Israel.
