Abalone Porridge and Pumpkin Porridge
"Juk," or porridge, has a long history. It originated when Korea was an agricultural society and farmers enjoyed eating crops cooked in water. There are more than 40 kinds of porridges in Korean cuisine.

Abalone porridge, or "jeonbok juk," is made with abalones and rice cooked together for a long time. It used to be a dish of choice among ancient kings. Abalones are a kind of shellfish living in clean water. In ancient times, they were regarded as a rare product because they were hard to find. Abalones are rich in amino acids and vitamins.

Pumpkin porridge, or "hobak juk," is made with ripe yellow pumpkin and is packed with nutrients. This dish is especially good for overweight people because ripe pumpkin is sweet and easy to digest.
