It's raining sharks: Sharknado sequel takes NYC by storm

The sharks are back. And this time, there are even more of them.

Hot on the heels of last summer’s first Sharknado, the sequel is set in New York, where a storm of epic proportions drops thousands of living, roaring sharks on the city.

Ian Ziering, Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo are all back following the success of the first Sharknado movie, which has become a true B-movie phenomenon.

“I’m not sure why it became such a phenomenon. Honestly, I have no idea. If I did, then I would be producing my own movies and they’d all be huge blockbusters, but it’s really catching lightning in a bottle. It was the right script, the right cast and the right medium at the right time,” says Ian Ziering.

Shooting took place in winter-time, one of the coldest on record in New York – with temperatures down to four degree farenheit, that’s minus 15 degrees celsius.

“Let me tell you something, your face freezes in four-degree weather. We were out at Citi Field and I had to run downstairs, cross over a whole bunch of seats and get everyone out of there and I made this long run, ran down the stairs, ran over to my friends and I couldn’t talk because my lips and cheeks were so frozen I started laughing because I couldn’t articulate,” says Ziering.

While it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the movie has garnered a true fanbase, with a video game also due out this summer.

‘Sharknado 2: The Second One’ premieres on the Syfy channel on the 30th of July.
