The British boss of a FIFA hospitality partner firm which is being investigated over alleged illegal World Cup ticket sales has turned himself in to a Brazilian court.

Ray Whelan disappeared four days ago when police tried to arrested him in connection with a “scalping” ring which is the reselling of tickets for profit.

FIFA’s Secretary General Jerome Valcke on Monday stressed the organisation knew nothing of the allegations.

“ We never say to any authorities that we will not support their actions and investigations and we always bring them and give them all of our support, because again as the CEO of FIFA of secretary -general, I can say there was not a single ticket which came out of FIFA ticketing at the price which was above the face value of the ticket.”

Whelan is director of the Swiss-based company “Match” which sold nearly half a million tournament tickets to hospitality clients

Twelve 12 people have been indicted in the probe in which large amounts of cash have been recovered during a police operation which gathered evidence via phone taps.Whelan denies any wrongdoing.
