Brazil parties after win over Columbia

On the streets of Belo Horizonte and throughout the vast country Brazilians forgot the pain of losing their star Neymar and the final whistle of their victory signalled a cacophony of parties and fireworks.

For Columbian fans it was the end of their team’s dream run to their first quarter final thanks believed some Brazilians to the tactical nous of their manager.

“In the beginning we were a little nervous because of our poor performance against Chile. Today we were more calm. Scolari made a smart move by leaving out Daniel Alves and putting in Maicon. We are in a good moment now,” opined one fan.

The match between neighbouring countries had been a passionate and physical affair which left the teams fans with starkly contrasting emotions as with one married couple, a Brazilian and Columbian.

“We have seen all the games here. Until now we have always left happy but today only one of us is going back happier than the other,” said the husband of the couple.

Brazilians believe it is their destiny to win a sixth World Cup on home soil but many pundits predict their party could come to a sad end on Tuesday when the team faces a buoyant Germany in the semi-finals.
