Narendra Modi surpasses Yudhoyono in Twitter follower base, climbs to 3rd place

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has surged to 4th place in the list of most followed world leaders on Twitter amid growing acknowledgement worldwide that such online social networking has become an indispensable diplomatic and communication tool.

In fact, Narendra Modi, the fourth most "followed" world leader on Twitter, has overtaken the White House in terms of number of followers on the micro blogging site, an annual global study of world leaders on Wednesday revealed.

According to Twiplomacy, a study conducted by global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller, US President is the most followed leader on Twitter followed by Pope Francis, Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Modi and the White House.
