Dead Israeli teenagers made desperate last call

Local media in Israel have broadcast what is said to be a mobile phone call made by one of the kidnapped Jewish teenagers found dead on Monday.

It is claimed the tape is the complete call made to police as the boys were lying captive in a car. At different points gunshots can be heard.

Initially emergency service operators thought the call was a hoax and so the alarm was not raised until several hours later when the boys’ parents became worried and contacted the authorities. Five police officers have since been dismissed.

The deaths of the three hitchhikers have provoked a strong reaction among some Israelis and there have been multiple appeals for calm. Palestinians are also on edge after two weeks of house-to-house searches

Though Hamas has denied any involvement, Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyhu has promised to punish the Gaza based group, which he blames for the deaths.
