Dans GTA 5 sur Xbox 360, jeu en monde ouvert, le joueur enchaîne braquages et missions en incarnant alternativement ou simultanément 3 personnages pour la première fois dans l'histoire de la série : Michael, Trevor et Franklin. L'histoire se passe à Los Santos, l'une des villes de la région de San Andreas. Le jeu propose aussi un mode multijoueur en univers persistant pouvant accueillir jusqu'à 16 utilisateurs dans des modes coopératifs ou compétitifs.
