Dozens missing after India building collapse

At least one person has died and 45 others are feared trapped in the wreckage of this building which collapsed in southern India.

The building, near Chennai city in Tamil Nadu, was under contruction.

So far eight labourers have been freed from the rubble.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHENNAI POLICE COMMISSIONER, S.GEORGE, SAYING:

"We have located six labourers on the right hand side of the debris, on the left hand side there are three and there is one on the front side. So we are giving water to them and different teams with expertise are working on that."

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has ordered a police investigation into the Chennai collapse.

On the same day an apartment block in the capital New Dehli collapsed, killing at least ten.

According to local media reports, similar incidents accross India's large cities have killed about 100 people in the past year.
