Algeria bathed in joy as team qualifies for World Cup last 16
Algiers erupted into joy as Algeria moved into the last 16 of the World Cup after a 1-1 draw with Russia.
They join Belgium from Group H in the knockout stage.
The fans attending the game in Curitiba celebrated their first ever qualification from the group stage:
“It’s the first time we’ve got to the next round, it’s wonderful, it’s a first in our history in the World Cup. We’ve succeeded in getting to the second phase, it’s wonderful,” said one delirious Algerian.
“We hope to win against Germany and bring happiness to our country,” chirped another.
That is the rub Algeria meet one of the tournament favourites Germany on Moday 30th June in Porto Alegre
