1929. The FIRST "Silly Symphony" cartoon, produced and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Ub Iwerks, makes for a whimsical "danse macabre". The "Silly Symphony" series of "musical novelties" was conceived to avoid Disney's studio being too dependent on the success of Mickey Mouse.
