Afghan presidential candidate survives bombing

Two bombs exploded here where Afghan presidential frontrunner Abdullah Abdullah was holding a rally.
His convoy was targeted and his car was struck in the blasts.
Abdullah Abdullah narrowly escaped the attack but his bodyguards were among the injured.
(SOUNDBITE) (Dari) GENERAL ZAHIR ZAHIR, POLICE CHIEF OF KABUL; SAYING:
"The convoy with Dr. (Abdullah) Abdullah and his deputy Khan Mohammad was attacked by a suicide bomber and fortunately they were not harmed. So far we have at least sixteen people wounded and two martyred."
Cars were damaged and windows in neighbouring shops and buildings were smashed.
The run-off round of the presidential election takes place next week.
No group has said it carried out the attack but the Taliban have repeatedly threatened to target the campaign.
