King Juan Carlos announces intention to abdicate

Madrid, June 2 (EFE).- King Juan Carlos makes a speech on his intention to abdicate just two hours after Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced it Monday morning. The monarch's pre-recorded message was aired on TV, radio and the Internet. He said he was handing over the throne to his son Prince Felipe in order to "begin a new period of hope" in Spain.
