Indonesia's Mount Sangiang erupted on Friday (May 30) although there were no reports of any deaths or injuries

Residents of the sparsely-inhabited island where the volcano lies have been advised to keep clear until conditions are declared safe.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) said that ash from the volcano rose to 3,000 metres and was moving eastwards.

Australian media reported most flights out of Darwin have been halted because of the ash cloud.

Indonesia lies on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire" with nearly 130 active volcanoes, more than any other country.
