Pakistan's prime minister orders inquiry into stoning of pregnant woman

Pakistan’s prime minister has condemned the stoning and bludgeoning to death of a woman outside one of the country’s top courts and ordered “immediate action.”
25 -year-old Farzana Parveen, who was three months pregnant, was brutally attacked outside Lahore High Court in broad daylight on Tuesday. She was beaten with bricks by her father, brothers and a former fiance for marrying against their wishes.
Farzana’s husband said he begged police to step in but they did nothing during the 15 minutes of violence.
Her father later gave himself up to police saying he ‘regretted nothing.’ The other relatives are still free.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he had told the chief minister of Punjab province to carry out an urgent investigation.
Activists say more must be done to protect women in a country where around 900 women were murdered in ‘honour’ killings in 2013.
Farzana Bari from Quaid-E.Azam university said it was outrageous that her attackers have been allowed to go free.
“We need to stop this barbarism” Bari said “I think its government’s responsibility to arrest all those people. And it is shameful that only one person got arrested and the rest, all of them, who attacked her, just get, you know, they ran away from the spot.”
