Thai army warns on dissent in government's northern stronghold
Protesters in northeastern Thailand face off against the military in this ancient city of Chiang Mai, home of the powerful Shinawatra family.
The military has banned demonstrations like this since it seized control of the country on Thursday.
But the ban and a curfew at night hasn't stopped these people from voicing their anger at the army takeover.
Around 200 protesters jeer at the soliders and even attempt to topple a motorbike over a small group of them.
One of the louder protesters grabs onto a pole to stop troops from taking him away.
But he was still detained along with five others.
Protests here appear to be swelling in line with the growing opposition to the military coup in Bangkok.
But here in Chiang Mai it's a particular challenge for the military.
The army needs to show it can control not just the capital but also the North and Northeast, both hotbeds of support for the deposed government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra
