Thailand: troops break-up anti-coup protest in Bangkok

There was a tense stand-off in the Thai capital Bangkok late on Friday night as anger mounted over the military’s overthrow of the country’s caretaker government.
At least two activists were detained after protesters scuffled with troops in one of the first open challenges to the army since it seized power on Thursday.
Several hundred demonstrators rallied in the city centre to denounce the coup defying a curfew and martial law, which bans gatherings of more than five people.
The first signs of descent to the army’s rule followed the days earlier events which saw Thailand’s ousted Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, members of her family and several other senior politicians detained after turning themselves in.
Washington, which has condemned the army’s power grab and called for Yingluck’s immediate release, said it was suspending military aid to the country.
