Kidnap ordeal ends for California woman after 10 years
A woman who claims she was abducted from her suburban Southern California home when she was 15 has been found alive after a decade-long alleged ordeal of physical and sexual abuse.
The woman has told detectives she was kidnapped by 41-year-old Isidiro Garcia who is said to have lived with her family ten years ago shortly after arriving from Mexico.
Garcia is now in police custody.
“My understanding is there was continued and repeated sexual assaults. On two occasions she tried to escape. He caught her… he beat her for her efforts,” said Anthony Bertagna, from Santa Ana police.
The alleged victim says Garcia forced her to marry and have his child.
Police say the woman contacted authorities on Tuesday after finding her sister on Facebook.
