Hoosier Sweetheart – A visit to Spiegle Willcox
On February 26 1988 my wife Ilse and I visited trombonist Spiegle Willcox and his daughter Cynthia at their beautiful house in Cincinnatus near Courtland N.Y. We met first at a place where Spiegle was doing a gig with a local band. Then we drove to his house on his 150 acre estate. In this video clip there are a few impressions of the first few moments at their beautiful place with it’s private lake..
The background music is “Hoosier Sweetheart” from the 1927 recording of the Jean Goldkette Band in which Spiegle played trombone. Bix Beiderbecke was also in that band. At the end I highlight the wonderful C-melody sax solo by Frankie Trumbauer
