Delta IV rocket blasts off carrying "next generation" satellite

STORY: The Delta IV rocket blasts off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, carrying a GPS satellite for the U.S. Air Force.

The launch took place promptly at 20:03EDT (00:03GMT) on Friday (May 16).

According to the United Launch Alliance (ULA), the Delta IV mission is carrying "one of the next-generation GPS satellites, incorporating various improvements to provide greater accuracy," for the U.S. Air Force, the ULA posted on its website.

It's the fifth launch for the United Launch Alliance in 2014.

Friday's launch marks the 26th flight for launch vehicle Delta IV .
