A UK national has been extradited to South Africa to face charges he ordered the murder of his wife while the couple was honeymooning there.
British national Shiren Dewani has been extradited to South Africa to stand trial for ordering the murder of his newlywed wife, a charge he strenuously denies.
According to Mr Dewani's version of event, the couple's taxi was hijacked by two armed men as they travelled through a poor township near Cape Town in November, 2010.
Dewani says the cab driver was forced out of the vehicle by carjackers who then stole the couple's valuables.
Dewani claims his wife was abducted by the men after they first threw him out of the moving taxi.
Several days later, a police helicopter found the abandoned taxi, with the body of the woman, Anni Dewani inside. She had allegedly been beaten and shot.
Upon his arrest, the taxi driver who drove the couple to the township claimed Mr Dewani had orchestrated the murder.
South African prosecutors claim there is CCTV footage of Shrien Dewani meeting the taxi driver at a hotel and handing him an envelope.
The taxi driver and the two carjackers have been convicted and sentenced to long prison terms, but the facts of the case are disputed by all three men.
Mr Dewani has now been extradited to South Africa and his trial is set to begin soon.
