'Alien' creator HR Giger dies after fall down stairs

Swiss artist HR Giger, whose creations for the original ‘Alien’ movie spawned a host of imitators and led to sleepless nights for an entire generation of filmgoers, has died aged 74 after falling down some stairs.

Mostly based in America, he also designed album covers and set up a chain of themed bars all featuring his outlandish mix of uber-Gothic science-fiction horror.
