Chances are you’ve never heard of C Me Dance, given that it’s a religious exploitation flick made for the church basement DVD market. The movie is probably worth avoiding, but the trailer needs to be seen to be believed. It starts off by setting the scene with a beautiful young girl with a terminal illness who is unwilling to let that potentially fatal setback derail her dancing career. The amateur acting and cheap video visuals are enough to induce giggles, but then it turns out that she seems to have overcome her illness with a good old-fashioned miracle. Everything seems on the up-and-up until the girl's father says, “I know this sounds strange, but it’s as if God has chosen you, and if that’s the truth, man, this is going to tick off the devil.” Of course, with this being a trash movie, that ends up being true.
As everyone knows, the devil can’t stand life-altering miracles involving teenage ballerinas and decides to personally ensure that the young girl dies. Somehow this disease of the week/inspirational dance movie quickly turns into a religious horror flick with action scenes that the low-budget production simply can’t afford. Like any great bad movie, C Me Dance is a treat because it’s completely genuine. The filmmakers clearly thought they were making a powerful spiritual movie with some unsettling horror influences. But Black Swan this ain’t, to say the least.
